Miami- Art Basel in Miami and Miami Beach is one of the finest and favorite weeks for Miami residents. The city comes alive to welcome thousands of art lovers.
Art Basel is the world’s largest art exposition and is today the number one art fair in the world with fairs only in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong. About 267 galleries gather under one roof in the city of Miami Beach to present to the world the masters of modern and contemporary art and emerging new stars.
In Art Basel Miami Beach leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa represent their artists.
This year Art basel took place from Dec. 1st to Dec 6th where thousands of art enthusiasts, artists, gallery owners an vip clients gathered at the Miami Beach Convention Center, which every year is the main location for the art fair.
But Art Basel also brings satellite art fairs in Miami like SPECTRUM and Red Dot in the art and design center, Context and Miami Art in Midtown Miami, Mana at Wynwood, Scope in Miami Beach and many pop up shops, galleries and of course the VIP parties.
During Art Basel and Art week in Miami art works range from $300 to $18 million like the unsold Andy Warhold’s portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Lots of pieces in the range of $500,000 and $2 million where sold during this week.
A spokeswoman for Art Basel reported the sale of a Francis Bacon oil on canvas, “Man in Blue,” from 1954, with an asking price of $15 million by Van de Weghe Fine Art, and Picasso’s “Buste au Chapeau” oil from 1971, with an asking price of $10.5 million, from the same gallery. Mazzoleni, a gallery in Turin and London, reported the sale of three works by Alberto Burri from the 1960s, including a “Plastica” which sold for $2 million.
Of the satellite art fairs I visited my favorite was Context in Wynwood, where i found many of my favorite modern artists’work: the one and only Andy Warhold and Roy Lichtenstein. I also Love the fun and luxury work of Bruce Makowsky and felt in love with Fidia Fallaschetti Freaky Mouse sculpture. Also enjoyed Banksy and Mr. Brainwash booth at Context, “Snow White and red Chanel” by Mari Kim and at Spectrum Satellite fair i thought artist Max Zarn was a genius with his bown packing tape led light boxes.
Besides the amazing art there were lots of vip parties, pop up openings and I had the opportunity to attend a few. This year one of the best vip parties was the soft opening during Art Basel of the expected luxury Faena Resort in Miami Beach where during Art Basel week many parties, vip and celebrities attended. It really was an incredible one week soft opening of a beautiful high end hotel.
Next year Art Basel Miami Beach and Art Miami WEEK will be held from Dec 1st to Dec 4th 2016. Don’t miss Miami’s art extravaganza in 2016 since is just one more reason to love and Live Miami!
