The city of Miami Beach approved the construction of a new four-story commercial building at 1824 Alton Road.
The City council unanimous approved the project located on the corner of Alton Road and 18 Street, the location where a Chevron gas station was built since 1963. Now, the gas station was torn down and the site is ready to be built. The site was purchased for 7.3 million by Saber Real Estate Advisors last year.
The developers plan to build a four-story commercial building with a 160-seat restaurant, 11,561 retail space on the ground floor, 15400 of retail space on the second floor and 130 parking spaces on two upper levels. According to a source, Michaels Craft Stores is expected to occupy the entire second floor and portion of the ground floor of the building.
The building will provide a broader sidewalk to have a landscaped buffer and physical separation from the street. As a condition for the approval the Miami Beach Design Review Board requested the developer to agree on some interior setbacks, to install a natural stone and not a porcelain facade along a portion of the building and install 12 outdoor bicycle racks to increase the 40 bicycle racks placed on different locations of the parking lot.
1824 Alton Road will start construction soon with plans to be finished by 2017.
